“I’ll start my diet on Monday.” “I’ll wait until after my vacation.” “I have too much going on with school, work, and moving so I can’t right now.”
Do any of these phrases sound familiar to you? I know I have said these sentences to myself more times than I can count over the years. To be honest, this is exactly why for quite some time I continued to yo-yo with my weight and was stuck in the same never ending cycle. I would always have a hard time deciding on what to wear because nothing ever seemed to fit the way I wanted and I was never happy with what I saw in the mirror despite overall progress I made over the years. I just wanted to lose those last 15 pounds!
If any of this is familiar to you, what types of excuses do you say to yourself? Did you know that the best way to get started on a fitness journey is to just start?
I honestly had to get sick of my own shit. I always made excuses to not make the best choices for myself. Let’s face it – as women it’s our nature to give more to others before we begin to spend any of our time taking care of ourselves.
For me personally, it was always easier to give into peer pressure, make the excuse of having to do something else instead of getting in a workout, and I would easily blow my daily calorie allotment on the weekends because I restricted so much during the week. I know it seems impossible to spend time meal prepping and planning with all the other demands in life, and you’re lucky if you make it to the gym three days a week right?
The day I committed to working on having the bikini body I always wanted I knew I had a long road ahead of me. As many of you already know, I had already tried all of the quick fixes in the past and knew I needed a whole new approach this time. I basically got started realizing it would likely be a good year or so before I would reach my goal, but mentally I was prepared and embraced the journey. In time, I adopted a whole new lifestyle and a year and a half later I can happily report I reached my goal just in time for this summer! The best part is I achieved this in a healthy manner and I’m eating plenty now.
What if I told you that if you started to put yourself first for a change and devote some time to you and your goals you would actually feel a lot better? Yes, committing to developing healthier habits and adopting a whole new lifestyle can seem a bit overwhelming at first, but once you start doing you will get better at it! I found during my journey even when I felt like I wasn’t making the most progress I felt better about myself knowing I did what I needed to that day to get me closer to my goals.
Before you know it, you will have created a whole new way of life that will result in you being happier on the inside because you’re finally happy with what you see in the mirror. If you’re always waiting to get started you will never make it to your end goal. Start by making a couple of healthy meal choices while you’re on vacation or actually set aside a couple of hours on the weekend to prepare meals ahead of time. True progress is not about being perfect, but it is about stringing along enough consistency so that you develop the necessary habits you need over time to walk around in the body you want. You basically need to create the lifestyle you want to be who you want!
Making a commitment to myself was one of the best decisions I ever made. I wasn’t happy and basically decided to take action. I started prioritizing what was truly important to me and put in the work. Now I live a completely different lifestyle, which resulted in the physical changes over time. I have sustainable results and feel so much better on the inside too. Looking back on my journey over the last year, I have realized where I am today was worth every ounce of effort I put in. I have made it a point to share my entire journey over my Instagram account because I want to show other women who were very much like me that this is completely doable and you don’t have to suffer to get the results you want. I mean who is going to complain about wearing a size 6 and eating 2600 calories a day? Granted individual results will vary, but with the right approach there is no reason you can’t sustain your results with a healthier intake, which has been the topic of a few of my other blog posts.
All you have to do is commit, stop making excuses and just get started! As long as you’re patient you will be amazed where you end up. The best part is you will be proud of what you accomplished because of all the effort you put into yourself. If you’re currently struggling to get started, feel free to reach out via my contact form. I love helping other women unlock their potential to become their best!
